All dining locations at the Texas Union and the William C. Powers, Jr. Student Activity Center will be operated by University Housing and Dining next semester, and Dine In Dollars will be accepted at all locations, a director at University Unions said.
Aramark Educational Services of Texas currently operates or subcontracts all dining locations at both the Texas Union and WCP, said David Anthony, director of business services for University Unions.
Aramark requested to cancel its contract with the University on Dec. 21, but the exact date is still undecided, Anthony said. Aramark’s contract was initially set to expire this May, he said.
Aramark did not immediately respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.
Aramark said in a letter obtained by The Daily Texan that all Aramark employees’ jobs will end Dec. 30.
Employees currently working at Aramark-operated dining locations will need to reapply with University Housing and Dining once the contract with Aramark expires, Anthony said. Currently, only the Starbucks and Chick-fil-A at the WCP and Texas Union are currently open due to decreased traffic, he said.
Anthony said grab-and-go services and coffee services will be maintained at both locations in the spring semester.
Next month, University Housing and Dining will release a student feedback survey about what brands students want to see at the Texas Union and WCP, Anthony said. Changes will be made to dining options based on the results.
Aramark also operates University Unions Catering, a full-service caterer for events on campus, according to the University Unions webpage.
Anthony said the University has an in-house catering option, so the transition from Aramark-operated catering will be seamless.
