Texas romps St. Edward’s to win fourth-straight scrimmage

Texas softball played its final fall home scrimmage at McCombs field Thursday evening. What took place in the game was nothing short of a blowout, as Texas destroyed St. Edward’s, 17-2.

The game itself was intriguing, as both coaches agreed to use situational play throughout the entire game. Each inning provided different situations. There were either runners on first with no outs, runners on first and second with no outs or runners on first and third with no outs.

Texas was able to capitalize with the base runners to start the innings, as made clear by the 17 runs. St. Edward’s, on the other hand, was not able to capitalize, but that was due in part to Texas’ pitching. Freshman Tiarra Davis started the game and struck out six during her scheduled three innings of pitching.

The Longhorn defense played well also, cemented by Texas getting outs on two rundowns between third and home.

“I thought we responded pretty well,” head coach Connie Clark said. “A couple miscues in some places where we got to get better, but it will be nice to go back and look at the film.”
